Success during the German Nationals

After a break of 4 years in flying competitions our Managing Director Holger Back competed in the German Nationals in 18m class (Lüsse) with big success.

After 8 competition days he reached the 4th place behind Michael Streit, Robert Schroeder and Reinhard Schramme with a very small point difference. Very high average speeds of sometimes more than 130km/h were very significant for this high class competition.

Holger was flying the “71”, DG’s Prototype of the LS-10 which is aerodynamically the same as the LS-10 produced in series. But due to a different wing parting and a different steering inside, this glider does not suit to the type certificate which is the reason for the experimental like certification of this glider.

That’s why the “71” is limited to a max. speed of 200km/h. Normally this is absolutely enough. But due to the high speed that were flown during the nationals this was a perceivable handicap since speeds above 200km/h would have been needed from time to time.

With his 4th place Holger straightaway flew into the German Team and again was appointed to be the spokesman of the German Team.

His great experience and knowledge will also help the German Junior Team which  he will support as coach during the World Champion Ships. During the Junior Worlds in Musbach (nearby Freudenstadt) 7 German pilots will waive the German flag an do their best to strengthen Germanys position as the leading country in soaring. Fingers crossed that they will have a similar success as during the years before.
